I Got A Salamander!

I got a salamander on Wednesday! I rescued him actually, because we got it from the bait shop where it would have been used for fish bait. I named him Cricket. The lady at the bait shop said that he would turn into a full grown air-breathing salamander. I’m not sure what kind he is, but I think it’s called an Axolotl, which will only lose its gills if I give it really low water. It might be a tiger salamander larvae, though. I hope he stays like he is. This is a picture of his tank.

I’ve added a piece of pipe to his tank since I took this picture.

He is supposed to eat all kinds of bugs, but I tried to feed him roly-polys and he spits them out. So now I’m feeding him big long earthworms. He ate 1 1/2 of them yesterday! That seems to be all he can handle because I put another half of one in his tank and he didn’t eat it.

If any of y’all can tell me if he is an Axolotl or a Tiger Salamander Larvae (and even if you don’t know what he is!), please leave a comment!

It is most likely a Tiger salamander, I have Axolotls and they are an endangered species, not allowed to be sold in retail! Axolotls are also from Mexico, not the US. I get mine from a guy that breeds them and he also has some that glow in the dark! I can try to take pics of mine and send them to you! Tiger salamanders are still cool, it will transform into a neat stripey critter.
