Candling Eggs

I recently posted about the little chick hatching project we did a few years ago. Remembering how fun that was has inspired us to try it again. We have some little girls who have never seen a chick hatching out of its egg, and we have some middle girls who don’t remember having seen it, so we are all waiting in anticipation of the great birthday.

It will indeed be a great birthday, if all goes well, because MaddieLynn has meticulously scheduled the hatching to occur on the day KatieBug will turn 4 years old.

Today is Day 4 of the 21 day incubation period, and we conducted our first candling. So far, it appears that 14 out of the 25 eggs we have appear viable. We plan to candle again on Day 7 and Day 14.

See photos and instructions of candled eggs here and here.

This is a very short video showing movement in a 7 day old egg.

We will update as things progress.
