We outgrew our little farm table a few kids ago, but we were given some benches, so we shuffled the chairs, added the benches, and just kept squeezing kids in closer together.
When we moved, we donated those rickety benches and have been eating meals in shifts ever since.
A few weeks ago, though, we got a brand new table that will seat FOURTEEN!
We have lovingly caressed our table and looked at it longingly and admired it out loud. But we haven’t eaten around it because we didn’t actually have any chairs to sit in at the table.
And we have this thing about sitting down to eat. We like to do it.
So, recently my husband struck up a deal with one of his patrons who is an expert woodworker. They would trade golf lessons for benches to match our new table!
The kind gentleman came last week to look over the table and take some measurements, and then he left and set to work.
Imagine our excitement when my husband came home from work today WITH THE BENCHES!
I had no idea that we would get them today, but I had prepared roast beef with potatoes and carrots for dinner, so we had ourselves a nice meal TOGETHER for the first time in months at our brand new table.
I couldn’t help thinking of all the wonderful blessings God has bestowed upon us, undeserving as we are.
And we thanked Him heartily.
