Cacti Are Not For Hugging

by Smockity Frocks on November 23, 2010

You have heard the old saying, “You learn something new every day”. This is especially true for a two year old.

Today we learned that cacti are not for hugging.

We tried duct tape for quick removal, but there were still hundreds left behind.

Tweezers removed all the spines that were left.

Good as new after a bath and sparkly nail polish applied by Sister as a reward for being a brave girl.

Glad to hear that all is well! I saw on some medical show that they used depilatory wax to remove cacti spines, lets hope you never have to see if that works as well as they said it did!

Ouch! I remember learning the SAME lesson when I was little. :(

Ouch! Not fun. Poor kid. I can’t imagine because I have a 9 yr old who still pitches an Oscar-worthy fit every time I have to remove a single splinter from her hand.

Just saw you won HSBA for Funniest Blog. Congrats, girl! You so deserve that one!

Ouch! My 7-year old just learned today that you need to use potholders when touching a pan that just came out of the oven.

Oh poor punkin!!! That’s a tough lesson to learn, a couple of my kids have learned it also.

This looks like it would really hurt. My son won’t have been a patient having them pulled out.

Aww…poor sweetie! Glad she’s all better now. On another note…I am so impressed with those close up photos…..WOW! I think I remember a post about a new camera…I’ll have to look it up.

We know all about not picking up a cactus with our hands. My then 4 year old did the same thing when we were plant shopping last Spring. Unfortunatley, a painful lesson. Glad your little one is doing better.

Ouch! I think many people have learned that same painful lesson at one time or another. :(

Jen November 24, 2010 at 8:10 am

I remember learning the same lesson, but I was a few years older. She’s ahead of the game!

I had a slightly dense cat once who thought it would be a good idea to take a big bite out of a very spiny cactus. How he yelled! It stopped his houseplant eating though.

Ooh! Poor thing! What a lesson to learn!

Heatherlee November 30, 2010 at 2:54 pm

That poor little thing. That must have bee so difficult. Our only run in with a cactus thus far has been when our second child put his bum in one. It was sitting in the corner near the table and he was standing on his chair. We all laughed awhile before we realized he needed help. He was ok. But, we still laugh over. My only regret is I didn’t get a picture.
