How to Make Homemade White Castle Sliders

Would you like to know how to make homemade White Castle sliders?

You know those mini, square cheeseburgers that are only big enough to hold one pickle slice and small enough to gobble up in 2-3 bites?

They are super simple to make and your whole family will LOVE them!

Here are the ingredients you will need:

  • 2 lbs. 80/20  ground beef
  • dried onion flakes
  • seasoning salt
  • 2 packages of 12 dinner rolls
  • cheese slices
  • pickle slices

1. Chunk a bunch of dried onion flakes in the bottom of a 9×13 pan. If you like onions, chunk a lot, like 1/2 cup. If you don’t like them, chunk less. What am I, your mother?

2. Smoosh 2 pounds of ground beef into the dish and sprinkle with seasoning salt. Make sure to use the reeeeally fatty meat so the onion flakes will get nice and tender from all the juice. As for me, I use the ground beef that comes in a plastic tube.

3. Bake in 400 oven for 25 minutes. The meat will shrink, so you can cover the entire thing with 6 slices of cheese.

4. Cut into 24 pieces (6 rows of 4) while trying not to drool. 

5. Slice the tops off the rolls WITHOUT breaking them apart.

6. Slide the patties onto the roll bottoms (Get it? SLIDERS?)  and top each with a pickle slice.

7. Slap on the tops.

8. Tear them apart and serve.

9. Hork ‘em down.

  5. Love this idea! I can’t stand White Castle but homemade would be wonderful! My 6 little ones would enjoy this and it is very easy to make! My local store promised not to raise the price of some foods all year and 80/20 ground eef is one of them. I get to buy it in 6 pound packs and save a ton of money.

  6. I just love making home made sliders. I posted a recipe very similar to this, except I use onion soup mix. I will definately remember your way when I go to make them and realize I’ve run out of soup mix!

  12. We call them Krystals in the south. I usually use a slider pan which is really messy this is such an easier way. We are going to try them tonight without pickles as most of my family don’t like pickles on theirs. They also make special slider bread here in Washington state.

      My daughter learned to make sliders in her homeschool cooking class. I was reading the rest of the menu, and I said ” I can’t believe your teacher has y’all making this stuff, none of it is healthy!” Everything was fried. My daughter said Why? And I said “We just don’t eat fried food”. She replied, “Why, is it against our religion? “

  18. Nothing says childhood obesity like yummy faux White Castle sliders! Look how many of them the recipe makes! Why, the little nippers will be stuffing their chubby little faces with these suckers and getting some healthy doses of fat and carbs! What’s for dessert, Doritos and Orea cookies?
    Not to mention that these are available from White Castle (they’re in all the best neighborhoods) or in your grocer’s freezer so why the he-double toothpicks would anyone in their right mind take the time to make them herself when she could be making something that’s actually healthy for her family to eat?

    • Simone, I’m not exactly sure what your motivation is for leaving such a rude comment. If you took a moment to look at Smockity’s site, you’d notice that not a single one of her children is even remotely overweight. So your comments about ‘childhood obesity’ seem to be evidence that you tend to speak before your do your research.

      You might do well to read this post on how to disagree when you comment on blogs. I’m sure the authors of the blogs you comment on would appreciate it immensely.

    • As somebody who has been involved with obesity research for over 20 years, I can say that these homemade White Castle sliders are a lot healthier than anything one would find at a fast food restaurant. Having these occasionally will not kill a kid. The problem comes when all kids do eat is fast food–and as these Moms on this site tend to cook homemade food pretty much every night, that’s not the case.

      You’d also know that they drink water or milk–that’s it. No empty calories from HFCS.

      Could you make them healthier? Sure, you could cut in some TVP–lower the fat, up the fiber, and also reduce the one cost. You could use whole grain rolls. But you know what? You don’t have to. Serve them with a nice salad and some cut-up fruit and you’d still end up with a pretty healthful dinner. Even if you have them with French fries–as long as this is a once weekly meal, it’s fine. So chill out Simone. Oreos and Doritos are fine in moderation as well.

  19. I found Simone’s comment a bit over the top too. That said, if you are interested in making this meal a little more healthy, what we have done in the past is add mashed kidney beans. We buy them in bulk and cook up a bunch and freeze them to add to ground beef recipes. Ok, so we haven’t done that in a while…but our intentions are good. ;0

  24. @ Simone, It clearly seems that you need to be reminded that not only is it important to teach good nutrition to your children it’s also important to teach good manners when speaking/texting to others, which equals good character. There’s nothing wrong with this dish providing you eat in moderation, which appears Connie doesn’t have a problem teaching this to her kids. Also, how do you know she didn’t make a little extra to have for another meal or is having people over? Don’t be so quick to judge ;)

  26. Oh YIUM! I made these last week & my kids LOVED them, esp my 17 year old son. He asked, “Can we just have these every night, whenever we’re not having pizza?” I’m pretty sure that the next time I make them I had better double the recipe – do you know how quickly teenage boys can show up at your house when word gets out that “good eats is on”? Texting is a very efficient means of communication.

  27. I halved this recipe last night for my family of 5 (one is 1, so he doesn’t really count), and it was superb in a 8″x8″ pan! Using a 12-pack of dinner rolls, we had 4 mini-burgers without buns- they were still delicious, though! My girls have already asked for them for next week. Yaay!

    Thank you for this recipe! I made them tonight and my family all enjoyed them. My oldest has celiac disease and we don’t eat out much, so White Castles are out of the question for him. But I tried one of his gluten free bread mixes in a crown’s muffin pan for little buns and he was a VERY happy boy. It is great to make him feel like a regular teenager.     I just had to laugh at Simone’s self righteous, condescending, food police remark. In years past, when I was younger and more patient with that sort of rudeness, I might have answered her in the very nice vein of Anne or Karla. Now though, I think I’ll just suggest Simone contemplate the sin of judging others and the “he double toothpicks” consequences….and raise her own kids on low protein and sugar substitutes and let’s see whose kids come out healthier in the long run. :)
