A Job! {and Free Business Cards}

We are excited to announce that my husband has a job!

Of sorts.

That is to say, he has the opportunity to earn some income.

He has gone to work as a roofing contractor. He’ll be trying to find people who need roof repair. Since it is TOTALLY commission based, that means we still don’t have any income unless he makes some sales.

At least it is a start, though. He is excited about who he is working with and is eager to learn the ropes.

Interestingly, during this layoff one of my blog readers contacted me to say that her husband owned a roofing company and he needed workers, and being the trusting type I am, I was all, “Shyeah, right. You SAY you’re a blog reader, but you’re probably really an ex-convict named Scary Larry Rodriguez, AKA The Blade, who has just been released from prison after a lengthy incarceration for a bloody crime and you read Mom blogs to troll for your next victim.

But then she emailed me a couple more times, and my friend, Joy was like, “Connie, I know her. And besides no one goes by “The Blade”, plus ex-convicts read deal blogs, not Mom blogs*. Stop being ridiculous and contact her!”

So I did, and my husband met her husband, and they are totally nice and normal! Well, except for the part where they are expecting their EIGHTH baby. That is cuh-RAZY!

Our next step, besides my husband following her husband around saying stuff like, “What’s that? Why are you putting that there? How many of those did you order? Is that your real hair?” is to set up a website and get business cards printed up.

So, if you need roof repair and live in Texas or know anyone who does, I know a really hunky dude who will come right to your door and help you with everything you need to get that sucker fixed up good as new! (Seriously, email me!)

And speaking of business cards, Vista Print has an offer TODAY ONLY** for 250 business cards FOR FREE!!! Hurry and snatch this up! I ordered some cute ones a while back and I often use them to put in gifts at baby showers or birthday parties. That way, the recipient has my address handy for a thank you note.

*I totally made up that part.

**I am an affiliate for this program. I will receive a small payment for each order.

Congratulations to your whole family! A lot of the men in our church are independent contractors, and right now most of them have more work than they can handle. Everyone needs new roofs and things :) God will provide for all your needs! (Phil. 4:19)

  4. I’m so chuffed for you.

I think our roof is a little far away for your hunky salesman to come and have a look, *and* our roof is in perfect working order, seeing as MY hunky roofer built our whole house a few years back… BUT… *if* I lived in Texas, and *if* I needed my roof repairing, you can be sure that your hunky roofer would be my first port-of-call.

And btw, did you *really* make that part up? I totally believed you ;)

Blessings with hubby’s work…. such good news :)

  5. Um, so would it be really wrong to pray that lots of folks in your neck of the woods start having major roof problems?

  6. Hooray! I’m glad he has a job and pray it goes well! All of our neighbors just had their roofs redone- we had a hailstorm here last October that caused damage for a lot of people.

I have to admit that I got really tired of the contractors walking our neighborhood and telling me that they could see roof damage on our house from the street. Especially when our roof is fairly new and I KNOW it is in good shape because my dad (a master carpenter all his life) went up and checked it after a major storm.

  7. Praise God! Also, thank you for I introducing me to The Marathon Mom’s blog – I’m loving her already :).

  8. Congratulations! That is so great!
    God is truly wonderful.

  9. Yea for new jobs! My husband just took one in Florida, so we’re moving down there. I’m going to get some free business cards with my new address on them to pass out. Thanks for sharing that information!

  10. Hooray! Now to pray for lots of customers!

  11. That’s great for your husband. And I love vistaprint cards!

  12. Many congrats! I pray that it works out well.

  13. Yay!! So so happy for you guys. Funny about the timing too. My hubby just officially launched the SEO on his website yesterday for his business. We are very excited and a little nervous. We just need some paying clients now. God didn’t bring us this far on our faith journey just to show us what failure looks like. I think we’ve already learned that lesson the past two years! :) So if you or any of your readers happen to know of anyone in need of a great copywriter and marketing specialist, let me know and I’ll get them in touch with my hubby. God is so good!

    Many blessings,

  14. That’s good news! I hope and pray that everything works out.

  15. Thanks for outing me to your mom friends. Now I have to find a new blog to stalk.
    Sincerely,
    The Blade

    :)

  16. So happy for you and your family! Very excited about the free cards! Thanks for sharing!

  17. Yay! Congrats!

  18. Seriously? Where in TX? I live near Saginaw/Lake Worth. I have some shingles missing from my roof due to the storms that passed by and I have been looking for someone to fix them.

  19. Good news. Hope he gets plenty of work. My husband’s experience on becoming self employed is that work is slow at first but a job well done leads to further work.

  20. Congratulations!

  21. Samantha says:

Your blog has been a blessing to read because my husband, as of July 8th, has become part of the unemployed. Thankfully we too have God and good humor to help see us through this period of time. Congratulations on the job opportunity. I will be praying for your family. God bless!
