The State of the Garden

by Smockity Frocks on July 19, 2011

We are having moderate success with growing our melons and okra, although we haven’t harvested any ripe melons yet, and the majority of our okra, while it is large and healthy looking, hasn’t produced any flowers.

We love fried okra, but so far we haven’t harvested enough for our family, so we have given it to the neighbors. Hopefully, we will soon be harvesting enough for our family to enjoy.

We have 5 or 6 cantaloupes growing and a lot of flowers, so hopefully we’ll see plenty of those.

Baby carrots, anyone?

I think it looks great! I think even small amounts of veggies and fruit bring such a happy feeling. (this wasn’t what I was going to say, but my brain malfunctioned). Anything is better than nothing.

Your carrots are bigger than mine!

Connie – you can take the okra that you do have and slice it up, freeze it on cookie sheets, then put it in a container or baggie back in your freezer. You can use it in soup that way. That’s what I do with bits of things that aren’t enough for a full batch.

The melons look great – I’m sure they will be delicious! :)
