The 4 Moms of 35 Kids are answering the question, “What is the best vehicle for a large family?”
Be sure to see what the other moms drive:
Way back yonder when The Smockity Bunch only totaled 8 – with one on the way, we drove a Suburban and had every single seat filled.
In fact, we even made a very lengthy and crowded road trip in that Suburban while we were waiting for the 15 passenger van we were trying to buy to be ready for purchase. The very day we rolled back into town from our cross-country vacation, loaded down with 4 car seats, a pack-and-play, a double stroller, an ice chest, and 2 large suitcases, we got a call from the car dealership that our van was ready!

Ever since that day, we have been driving a 15 passenger van, which we bought used and promptly named “Hogzilla”.
What? You don’t name your vehicles? Huh. Weird.
We keep the removable last row of 4 seats out of the van since it is placed against the back doors and doesn’t leave room for any cargo when installed. This essentially gives us an 11 passenger van and lots of space for groceries, luggage, strollers, alpacas, etc.
What? You don’t drive around with alpacas in your car? Huh. Weird.
If we know we will be carting around extra people, we simply put the back seat in place and we are good to go.
Would you like to see how 7 children can load up and get buckled in 40 seconds flat? Well, of course you do because the only time you’re going to see it done that easily is when there is a camera pointed at them and you’re not late for a Very Important Engagement. Go ahead. Click the link and watch the video. It’s a thing of beauty.
Our 15 passenger van is perfect for our family of 10, and it was very reasonably priced. It turns out not a lot of people actually want to drive one as their family car, so we found a used one for a great price.
And they are so stylish too! I always turn heads when I cruise around town.

Of course, that could have something to do with the alpacas…
What kind of vehicle does your family drive? How many kids does it fit?

Oh my. I LOVE your humor.. We drive a 15 passenger without that last row also, but no alpacas.
The six kids, my hubby and I cruise around in our 12-pax “party van.” We (jokingly) considered leasing advertising space on the side of the van, but couldn’t come up with a company that might want to be associated with our loony bunch. Clorox wipes, maybe?
With our family of 7 kids plus mom and dad and possibly growing we went with the 12 passenger sprinter when we were transitioning from 5 to 6. We kept the Yukon XL as our “compact” car for when we need to go in different directions. I thought back then I would always have lots of extra seat but as God continues to bless us we are slowly filling them. We love the Sprinter since it is diesel and gets decent mileage fro a car of it’s size and the space behind the last row is amazing. My husband made a custom folding table to give me two levels of storage and we can fit 7 milk crates under the kids seats. We can pack everything we need and sometimes other extras like a friends golf clubs that would not fit with them.
This post cracks me up! I need an alpaca : )
