Older Women Teach the Younger Women Candy Making

by Smockity Frocks on November 8, 2011

I am thrilled to pieces that the congregation I attend has a program wherein the older women come together once a month to teach the younger women various skills, like how to make strawberry jam, starting a garden, simple sewing, making homemade mixes, bread making, pie making, and more.

This month’s class was on candy making, just in time for the holidays!

Here are some of the tips I gleaned this month:

Don’t be afraid to use your hands.

Heavy duty cookware and a candy thermometer are essential.

Use the back of a knife to break up peanut brittle.

To keep wax paper from moving around on the counter, wet the counter slightly. This keeps the wax paper in place!

And finally, chocolate makes everything better!

Connie, it sure looks like you all had a great time! I still remember making candy with my grandparents so knew the tip about knife for peanut brittle…but thanks for sharing the tip about the waxed paper! :) Will use that one next time I need it. :) God certainly blesses us when we follow His word and it sounds like your congregation has the Titus 2 thing down! :)

That sounds like a wonderful program. I so wish we had something like that. Can you tell us what candies you made besides the peanut brittle, lol.

What a great idea! More churches need to do this! I’m rubbish at making candy and wishes I had someone to teach me and my girls! Anyone up for a trip to London?

Now, did they really have to teach you the last one? About chocolate? =) That is really neat, practical skills as well as life on life discipleship, that is what it is all about!

That sounds like a great idea for the women at your church :)

And I never knew that (and never would have thought of it) that putting some water on the counter would keep wax paper in place. Nice!
