This week, The 4 Moms of 35+ Kids are discussing how to manage blogging time.
Blogging is a great way to interact with others, get encouragement, give helpful advice, and for our family blogging makes money.
Because of those positive aspects, I will be honest and tell you that it is a challenge to manage my blogging time.
It is very tempting to spend all my energy on something that doesn’t leave peanut buttery hand prints on my behind, doesn’t barf in the van or get sassy with me. If my blog is too demanding, I can walk away and it doesn’t try to follow me into the bathroom. My blog lets me finish sentences and doesn’t wipe its snotty nose on my shoulder. It doesn’t whine or give excuses for why there is a sandwich in the dishwasher. My blog always respects me.
I constantly have to remind myself that blogging is temporary. My children’s souls are eternal. My blog is digital. My children are real and warm, with real needs. Immediate needs. Blogging can wait. Hugs won’t wait.
There are any number of bloggers who can tell you how to homeschool or how to manage a large family, but there is only one mama who can read “Go, Dog, Go” for the 15th time in a day to an almost 2 year old. There is only one “best little mama in the whole wide world” who will go outside to watch a 4 year old discover newborn kittens for the very first time or bottle feed a baby goat.
I do struggle with managing my blogging time. I do not have a schedule, and I am often typing after midnight, as I am with this post. I have had blogging schedules in the past, but I have never stuck with them because there are so many times that needs arise and disrupt it.
Most days I do my writing for the next day’s post after the children are in bed. Yes, I’m a putter-offer. A last minuter. A fly by the seat of the pantser.
Do you have a blogging schedule? How do you manage blogging time?

Hi Connie Your blog is a blessing. I so agree – children gotta come first!
loved reading this- i too struggle with blogging time with 7 kids and i like how you were “real” about it. schedules don’t work for me either!
I started blogging when I was pregnant with #6. But once she came along, blogging slowed down. Then when I had #7, blogging was non-existent
It is sad though coz blogging offers me an outlet.
But with homeschooling and dealing with allergy issues (children and me!) I just can’t find the time
I love your blog. You make often make me lol! So keep up the good work and be blessed!
I can’t imagine how you do it….you’re my hero. I only have one (with one on the way) and I still struggle with it.

Sometimes I want to get my work done, and I have to remind myself that I deal with runny noses and boo-boos first.
My first jobs are wife and mommy….blogging falls behind those.
Thanks Connie!
Although I don’t usually schedule blog posts, it helps to have certain things for certain days – a miscellany random post on Mon (weekends are so busy, it works perfect), my book reviews on Thursday, a weekly wrap-up/favorites on Friday. With a house of 10 and something always happening, I always have more ideas than what time allows!
Hmmm…it’s too easy for me to be a procrastinator too and to do things that are not really that important. Thanks for the reminder that only souls are eternal!!
I struggle with keeping a hard, fast schedule. For anything.
However, I really enjoy blogging, and my husband enjoys my blog…so, I keep blogging here and there when I have a chance – usually at night.
I also really enjoy your blogging “voice”. You make me laugh often. And I dearly love to laugh. Thank you!
Love it! A “fly by the seat of the pantster.”
I often do my posts last-minute, too…
Writing after mid it. Huh. I’m not sure any of my neurons are still firing that late! And, what time do you get up in the morning? I knew it: you are actually a super mom and your power is that you don’t need sleep, right?
I’m trying to get back to blogging (my job outside the home really interferes with that) and right now I am warbling between writing a bunch of posts on the weekend & scheduling them to post throughout the week, and just tossing up a post as I get to it during the week. I think it just depends on the week. Mostly, though I think only my mother and my grandparents read my blog, so I don’t really need anything fancy.
No schedule here either…tried it for awhile, and failed miserably.
My brain is pretty useless by the time I get the kids to sleep at night, so blogging in the evening hours doesn’t work for me. I have found, however, that waking early to enjoy my coffee and write posts before the kiddos are up, works well for me.
