I’m taking this little girl to college today.
How can I drop off a little girl in a smocked dress at a college campus 4 hours away?
The truth is she’s no longer a little girl. She’s a grown up young lady, and I couldn’t be more proud of her!
And since I know she’s a regular reader here, I’m going to go ahead and list my parting advice so she can reference it while she’s away.
Advice for the College Bound
There will be students cheating on tests and assignments, and they might make a better grade than you because of it. Don’t do it.
It will be tempting to put off thinking about your assignments until they are due. This is a sure fire way to bomb the assignment. Plan when you will work on it as soon as you get it.
Don’t believe what other people tell you about God.
You will hear lots of opinions about who God is and what you should do about it. Don’t believe everything you hear. Find out for yourself. The truth about God is in His word. Search it.
There will be kids drinking and doing drugs.
Don’t have sex.
Other kids will be doing it, and you will have more freedom than ever before. Don’t put yourself in a situation where you will be tempted. Groups are good.
Learn all you can.
You will be surrounded by experts in many fields. Soak it up.
Keep in touch.
Text or call if you need anything at all. We will miss you terribly and will be so glad to hear from you.
Remember who you are.
You are God’s child, a Hughes, a big sister, a daughter, a scholar. Make us proud. Make yourself proud.
